The weather forecast had looked perfect for a sunrise at one of Mark's favourite photography locations, so when we got there everything was looking good, but, as can happen with landscape photography, a bank of cloud rolled in at the wrong time and the sunrise did not happen.

Despite the weather not being the best for landscape photography the changing weather did make for some interesting compositions and challenges with the light. On more favourable days Llyn Cregennen offers some spectacular scenery and is an ideal place to to enjoy some warm summer sunshine with perhaps a picnic.

Landscape photography compositions

Photographically wise, there are several compositions to be had, as the lake a numerous features including rocks, a boat house and its own small island. The Lakes are owned by the National Trust, and are situated on the northern slopes of Cader ldris, some 800 ft. above sea level, overlooking the beautiful Mawddach Estuary, with car park, just 5 miles from Dolgellau. The boat house shown below is all that stands in the way between the Photographer and the Mountain. If walking is your thing there are various hikes and trails around the location, offering fantastic views over to  Barmouth and Cardigan Bay.

This Welsh farm house is set high above the valley and commands idyllic views of the welsh mountains and the Cregennan Lakes.

For more information on this location I would recommend popping over to The lovely Welsh town of Dolgellau in Snowdonia Website who have compiled a lot more information on this location and surrounding areas.
